Mohammad Reza Shah's training methods
With the establishment of the White Revolution by Mohammad Reza Shah, there were a lot of new training methods to prepare the young generation for their future jobs and occupations. By allocating free and compulsory education, the Shah tried to fight illiteracy. There were also different formations and scholarships, which contributed to that purpose. The training method improved the industry and social status of people as well as minimizing the illiteracy within the country.
Free and compulsory education (Off the job training)
In order to eliminate illiteracy in Iran and train the young student for their future jobs, Mohammad Reza Shah allocated free and compulsory education for all Iranians. By 1978, 25% of all the Iranian population was enrolled in public school and approximately 185,000 students of both sexes were studying in Iranian universities.
Formations (On the job training)
• Formation of literacy Corps
By 1963 two third of the population was illiterate, therefore the Formation of Literacy Corps was founded where the students who received their high school diploma were sent to villages and other places where illiteracy was high, to teach the people and fight illiteracy as a community service
• Formation of Health Corps
This formation was founded to improve the public health of the people, especially in rural regions where insanitation had caused health issues. Mohammad Reza Shah succeeded to train approximately 4500 medical groups in three years. These medical groups were able to treat around 10 million patients.
• Formation of Reconstruction and Development Corps
This formation was established in order to teach the farmers in rural areas the modern agricultural methods and techniques and keeping livestock. From 1964 to 1970, the agricultural production increased by 80% in tonnage and 67% in value.
Scholarships (Off the job training)
There were medical and engineering scholarships for students who constantly proved their competence and talent to help the industrialization of the country. They would be sent to foreign countries, especially USA for their studies, however they had to sign a contract regarding their return to Iran after their graduation. There were over 100,000 Iranian students studying abroad in that time. 50% of which, were studying in the USA.
